Tree Swallows Amaze Me

I like tree swallow and barn swallows. I just can’t get over them both.

Cornell Lab All About Birds says: Tree Swallows live on a diet of insects, though they occasionally capture other small animals and may eat plant foods during bad weather when prey is scarce. They feed from dawn to dusk in sheltered areas full of flying insects, usually foraging no more than 40 feet from the ground. Tree Swallows eat all kinds of flying insects: dragonflies, damselflies, flies, mayflies, caddisflies, true bugs, sawflies, bees, ants, wasps, beetles, stoneflies, butterflies, and moths, as well as spiders, mollusks, and roundworms. Their prey may be smaller than a grain of sand or up to two inches long. They chase prey in the air, with acrobatic twists and turns, and sometimes converge in large numbers in an insect swarm. During the breeding season, Tree Swallows eat high-calcium items like fish bones, crayfish exoskeletons, clamshells, and eggshells of gulls or loons.

Have I told you how much I treasure her book The Edges of His Ways? Oh what a challenge and encouragement and comfort her writing is to me. I think I will tire of it and another year passes with me reading a passage each morning and pondering the meaning for each of us in the current year.

Is this passage she writes:

“As I read the New Testament over and over, I am more and more impressed by the way suffering was taken for granted as something appointed; but always there is the thought of joy not far off. In our Lord’s private talks with His disciples there is continually and clearly that “Must” of suffering, and the joy to follow. We often act as if the place that is called Calvary had been taken out of the landscape of life, or were an accident there. It is not so; but just out of sight is the joy that is set before us, and there is the power which can enable us to treat the invisible as visible, the promised as present.”

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God. That describes suffering we more than likely will never have to endure.The example is set for us though by our Savior. Whatever the suffering, endure it. Disregard or despise any shame involved with that suffering. Always reach for the joy set before us. What joy you may ask? The joy of eternal companionship with the Trinity. The joy of the promises of Jesus: we are never alone. We will know His voice. EVERYTHING we need has been given to us.

My friend Chuck who has an acute form of leukemia recently texted me, “Our faith and the good Lord’s strength are what gets us through each day. I still have a big hallelujah even on the worst day.”

So I sent him the song Hard Fought Hallelujah performed by Brandon Lake, John Batiste and Jelly Roll.

I have no idea what the purpose the water on stage was, except maybe to symbolize the Holy Spirit?

Second Chance! Take A Lesson

We saw this story on the news recently.

What amazes me is how the new parents were willing to feed transplanted chicks! I could imagine one eagle saying to the partner,“But honey, they multiplied over night!!”

If you listened to the 4 minute video Marcie Logsdon, veterinarian, mentions “if the baby is there and begging to be fed, the adults feed it.” Oh! if only humans could be so kind and giving! Perhaps since this is our national bird we could all take a lesson from the Bald Eagle parents.

My Neighbors

I have told you about my neighbors who were both diagnosed with different forms of cancer. His is acute lymphoma requiring many transfusions, chemo drugs, pump, hospitalizations, etc. Hers was pancreatic and she was given 3-6 months to live. Thank you for your prayers on their behalf.

Recently she was hospitalized after being very ill and in bed at home for about 4 days. They got her re-hydrated but it was decided she should enter the Hospice program. She was admitted to Hospice on Friday I believe. We were all praying fervently for her. Saturday morning she was unresponsive. She passed on Sunday morning. May she rest in peace eternally with God our Father.

She suffered very little pain which is amazing as Pancreatic is said to be one of the most painful cancers there is. Her prayer for several months was that the Lord would simply take her home. I was always baffled by why she chose to undergo chemo, but she did. My prayer when she was admitted to hospice was that she would not linger, for the sake of her husband and children. She and Chuck were married for 63 years.

Please pray for her husband, Chuck, and their 3 sons. I heard there will be a celebration of life sometime in August? I have no details on that.

Ginny had the most incredible lovely white hair. She could cook like a professional. She made a popcorn treat that we took to calling ‘crack.’ She had her sons make some right before she went down hill. Knowing I was recovering from foot surgery she sent some to our house with the instructions to eat 4 pieces for pain! Or however many I needed. Always the clown.

She volunteered for years at Clermont Mercy hospital as a transporter for same day surgery patients and also at the front desk. She told so many stories about her youth I would have trouble relating them to you here. She will be greatly missed.

Not Allow the World to Deaden Us

Read this quote and just knew I would want to comment on it.

We have a responsibility to hold to the power of love that we know to be true, and to not allow the world around us to deaden that in ourselves.

We were watching Project Hail Mary and he used the line, “Shields up!” from Star Wars. And the computer answered him with a humorous line.

We greatly enjoyed the movie. I believe we watched it on Amazon Prime? At least it took my mind off my forced sitting.

I am not a movie expert, but when negative things come at me, and I suddenly realize it, I tend to tell myself, “Shields up!”

The quote says to “hold to the power of love that we know to be true.” Shields up! Grasp that power of love! Do not allow the world around us to deaden us to any good power within us. It is not only the space movies of the modern age that tell us this. Paul told the believers in Ephesus to put on the FULL armor of God. Those words hold true for us in 2026 also.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. When was the last time you consciously took up your shield of faith? Deliberately put on the full armor of God? When was the last time you read this passage in your Bible and knew for a certainty that it was something God wanted you to do?

Stay conscious, alert, diligent to what is going on around you.

Discipline yourselves; keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. 1 Peter 5:8-9 NRSVUE

Last Sunday

I finally made it back to church last Sunday! Bob, my trusty chauffeur, drove me there. I used the walker to get to my chair in the outdoor setting on the lower parking lot pavement. I was grateful for the breeze and the shade of the oak trees. The trees reminded us there had been rain the night before as the occasional drop from the leaf surfaces fell upon us. Just made us smile! It was good to be with my family of believers. I was so tired by the time we returned home!!

Doctor Description

He wrote I had a 1st MTP hardware removal fusion revision, bone graft, 2nd MTP capsular hepby. The first MTp fusion did not fuse correctly.

Two plates, nine screws in the area of one great toe. Ouch, ouch, ouchy. The swelling continues and I elevate, ice and try not to react. Sit, listen to audio books, crochet a little, nap, rest my head, try not to think too much. Rub Aquaphor into the scar and surrounding area. Tender!

I am coming to intensely dislike this orthopedic boo . Regardless of what sock I choose it leaves lines in my foot. I know if I do not honor his instructions, this will not heal properly. Trust me, I WANT this healing to be proper and thorough.

My husband, who thinks he is highly humorous, loved Dan’s cartoon about “This little piggy.” I did NOT as it hit too close to home for me. Doc told us if this gets infected he would have to amputate my toe.

Bob did make up for his unappreciated comedy by finding a difficult to find candy bar at Walgreens for me. He told the cashier he had to make amends for making fun of me. Okay. I can accept that! And trust me, that candy will last a long time.

They used so much betadine for the surgery it might never come out of my nails! Foot really looks much better than it did a month ago. I did not post the bloody, scabby photo.

I have not done anything about learning Origami other than look at the image I want to create. Oh well. Time to stop writing and go ice and elevate. My toe dictates much of my life right now!

Post Never Showed

I wrote a blog with a video showing dog humor. No idea why it never showed up today?

I am in week 6 of 8 sitting to heal this foot. I am allowed to put my foot down as long as I only step on my heel. My foot still does not like the pull of gravity. Swells and tuns red, then purplish. Just ugly. I cannot imagine putting a shoe on that foot.

Bob took me to get new glasses. Mine were scratched. I could not figure out how I scratched my lenses? The tech said it was likely due to cleaning the lenses with a shirt or other rough fabric. Now I know. Last time I got new glasses they told me they only had one frame like mine. I get many compliments on these frames. This time he again said they had one left! Wonder how many are really around? Well I am wearing the new ones and glad i was able to get the same frames.

Even when I am nasty and disgusted with being limited, things can still go right.
