Playing Michael Q. Powell

Walking the dog on a trail I had only taken once before on a night walk, I was startled and delighted to see an Ebony Jewelwing Damselfly, I think! I have been following Mr. Powell’s site for quite some time. His photography is amazing.

This photo was taken with my iPhone 8+ and the new dog on a leash in the other hand. I was delighted to capture this. And I immediately thought, “I am playing Mike Powell!”

Then I spotted one I could not photograph as it was too jumpy. It was a delightful almost turquoise. Have no idea what kind of damsel or dragonfly it was. Wished someone else was with me to capture the image.

We left that area and headed back to the car. And voila! There was another sort!

And another shot of same one. I even captured the shadow of it’s wings 🙂

Mike! Come help me in Ohio!!! Absolutely NO idea what this one is. I was walking near the east fork of the Little Miami river. It was a humid morning and the dog kindly cooperated while I took photos. What a champ!!

If you are interested in dragonflies and damselflies I cannot recommend a better site than https://michaelqpowell.com. He is a terrific photographer who also writes well. He is quite fun to follow. At least until he gets to the snakes.

  1. Namaste, Miss Molly! My name is Benjamin and I am 6 and 1/2 years old. I love dragonflys and damselflys and all kinds of insects and animals. I love bumblebees and all the other pollinators. Mr. Mike is my special friend since I was really little. I think I was maybe 4 years old. That is a good idea to be like Mr. Mike cause he is awesome. He takes really really great photos of all kinds of things and he teaches about them too. I like your photos too! I would like to see your dog sometime. Gem and I will visit you again, okay? I did not come across his post, which brought me to your blog, until today. I will definitely save it to share with Benjamin upon his Monday morning return.     I chuckled when I read this recent posting from one of my faithful followers, Molly Lin Dutina. While she was out walking her dog, she stopped to photograph damselflies, a feat that I would never even think of attempting, and thought of me. Be sure to check out her blog for inspiration and to learn of more of her delightful adventures in Ohio. Her admiration of my photography, though, does have limits–she is not at all fond of my close-up photos of snakes.

  8. What a delightful posting, Molly. I hope you don’t mind, but I want to repost it on my page. The damselfly in the final two photos is a female, but I can’t immediately identify the species. In so many damselfly species, the males are brightly colored and distinctive, while the females are somewhat drab and non-descript.
